The gig economy is worth over 5 trillion USD globally and growing. And yet, the stories of the workers behind this tech revolution have gone largely neglected. The Gig is Up reveals how the magic of technology we are being sold might not be magic at all.

Meet the filmmakers

  • Director

    Shannon Walsh is a filmmaker and writer whose award-winning films cover topics ranging from labour rights, to grief and climate change. The Gig is Up (2021) was hailed by Variety for being "galvanizing and moving" and The Hollywood Reporter called it "a devastating reality check". Her films have been theatrically released and broadcast globally, screening in festivals around the world such as IDFA, Hot Docs, CPH:DOX, Doc NYC and many others, as well as playing art spaces, such as the Venice Biennale and the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Walsh has also authored more than 40 journal articles and book chapters, & co-edited two books.

    Her latest book "The Documentary Filmmaker's Intuition: Creating Ethical & Impactful Non-Fiction Films" (2024) is published by Routledge.

    For the past 30 years, Ina Fichman, Intuitive Pictures inc., has been producing award-winning creative documentaries. Her films have been screened at numerous festivals including Sundance, Berlin, Venice, Hot Docs, Visions du reel, Locarno, TIFF, SXSW and many others. Recent credits include 7 Beats Per Minute, The Bones, Fire of Love, and Adrianne & The Castle.
